Simba came to us in August as a four-year-old intact male Africa serval. We knew nothing more about him really. He was dropped off at our compound by "friends" of the owners. They stated that the owners no longer wanted him due to a divorce and relocation to California (where wild animals are illegal as pets). We gave him a complete health exam, vaccinations, worming (which he needed), and neutered him. We submitted his blood to Dr. Jenni Spencer's immunology research and found he had very low titres. Assuming he had not had proper vaccinations previously, we have boostered him as if this is his first series. At first, he was highly stressed after all he had been through. A monumental breakthrough on October 22nd, when he actually licked a volunteer's hand. At that time, all we had normally gotten out of him was hissing! In January he went to his new approved home in Indiana. We have been following up and he is incredibly adjusted, head butting them upon emerging from his shipping crate. A great success story and another happy rescued feline. It was incredibly hard for the volunteers to let him go, as it is whenever a cat goes to their new facility. However, by supplying them with approved, heavily screened new homes, we can keep our caging available to constantly help others like sweet Simba.
